PostSubject: MACKEY FORD again,..UPDATE !!!!   July 5th 2008, 11:33 pm

That's right everyone,...Mackey Ford on rt 762 is looking to be a hot place for deer so far.
I counted 9 deer so far crossing the fields and 2 were small bucks.

About 5 miles south on Rt 23 I saw a nice buck, big bodied.he was standing in a soy bean field with 2 Doe's.ODD,..but true. This was about 8:55 pm tonight.
Also saw those Turkeys again until fireworks someone was setting off scared them off.

The river (Scioto River) is down again and I am seeing deer drinking from the banks.
And the oddest of all I saw a Badger on Canal Rd in Lockbourne.YES a Badger,..not a ground hog ,..but a true to life BADGER!!!
He is silverish with black stipes. He would probly go about 10 to 15 lbs,..he was a nice size critter.
I will be trying to get pictures to back this up,so I dont look bad.So bare with me,..I will get the pics.
Coyotes are on the rise it seems as well.A neighbor said he saw one up by the parks mail boxes a couple morning ago.And we used to have alot of cats around here,..there arent many to be seen lately. So this one has me wondering for sure.Gonna try to get a camera set up for that too.

Now my new job takes me all over Ohio and I will tell ya this,..I have seen alot of deer !!!
I mean i seen alot before,..but this year there are alot to be seen,..and road kills are looking to be up as well. It's sad but I saw a fawn laying on the side of Rt 23 in Pickaway Co. and another in Ross Co. on Rt 23 as well.
I run Rt 23 and Rt 104 and Rt 22 on most of my route, and this is nice because I hunt alot of property on these routes on Public land.So this is nice to see deer standing in the same filed morning and evening everyday just about.

Okay all thats alli have to report so far,..when I get more I will report it to you all.

Until then ,..

HOWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL !!!! Howlin at the MOON

PostSubject: MAckey Ford has new WETLAND !!!   September 5th 2008, 1:37 pm

Hello all,..
I am kinda down in the dumps but also happy that waterfowlers will have another place to hunt geese and ducks.
As I was driving by the Mackey Ford Wildlife Area located on Rt 762 (West of Rt 23),I saw bulldozers and some other large earth movers in the field on the North side of Rt 762.
I was also fortunente enough to happan accross 3 gentleman, 1 being a ODNR officer and the other 2 being workers that are putting in a new WetLand.

The parking area used to be very small, but now it will be big enough to hold at least a dozen vechicles or so.The man made wetland (pond),should be filled soon enough if we get the rain we need.Just hope we dont have a replay of last year!!!

There will still be hunting permitted for squirrel and deer etc.But it may be hard to get in any of that type of hunting if waterfowlers are present.
Pictures will be taken and uploaded asap. This is a new project for me to get to work on over the weekend. So hopefully by sunday I can get some pictures uploaded of the area.

I also would like to add that accross from this very area, there's good habitat for pheasants as well.
I observed deer walking along the edge of the Scioto River about 150 yds north of the bridge just before I got to talk to the workers and the ODNR officer.
I myself dont see any need for a wetland, but I wont comlain about it either.
We all need better places to hunt, geese and duck hunters are no different.I support the effort and the new "Mackey Ford WetLand Area".That's not the name, but I figured I would go ahead and dub it as such.lol !

Okay All
